The Winners of the 2004 Ljubljana Tourism Quality Selection

By introducing this trademark, selecting the providers of the services whose quality is above the average and presenting them publicly, the Municipality of Ljubljana wishes to raise the general quality standards of tourist services in Ljubljana. The project holders are the Municipality of Ljubljana and the International Tourism Institute.

The quality of services provided by the catering and accommodation businesses applying for the Ljubljana Tourism Quality Selection trademark is first assessed by a special evaluation commission, whose judgement is afterwards re-evaluated by an expert commission. In assessing the quality, the two commissions not only take into consideration the basic technical requirements, but also the level of reliability, security, understanding of consumers' needs, authenticity, responsiveness, expertise, accessibility, tidiness, hospitality of the staff and their attitude towards customers. The Quality Selection trademark is conferred on the deserving businesses every year for a period of two years, after the expiry of which the commissions re-evaluate their services.

The catering and accommodation service providers interested should submit their applications to the Department of Economic Activities and Tourism of the Municipality of Ljubljana (Oddelek za gospodarske dejavnosti in turizem Mestne občine Ljubljana, Zarnikova 3, Ljubljana, tel. +386 (0)1 306 43 00).

As the Ljubljana Tourism Quality Selection trademark winners have been verified to be the providers of the best quality services within particular price ranges, the Ljubljana Tourist Board warmly recommends them to anyone visiting Ljubljana.

The winners of this year's Ljubljana Tourism Quality Selection include six restaurants serving various selected dishes and one hotel, namely the Hiša kulinarike Manna house of culinary art, the M Hotel, and the restaurants Restavracija Ljubljana within the Slon Hotel, Restavracija JB, Gostilna Breskvar, Via Bona and Restavracija Mexico 1867. .

As many as four of them are second-time winners of the Ljubljana Tourism Quality Selection. In 2002, when the project was started, the winners included the M Hotel and the restaurants Gostilna Breskvar, Restavracija JB and Restavracija Mexico 1867.

The Hiša kulinarike Manna house of culinary art opened its doors a good year ago. Its building, located in the Trnovo district by the Gradaščica canal, houses a small café, a tea room, a pasta and desert corner and, on the first floor, a restaurant.

The name of the restaurant Mexico 1867, which serves Mexican cuisine, notably the delicious tortillas, refers to the year of events important to both Mexican and Slovenian history. 1867 saw Maximilian I, Emperor of Mexico and brother of the Austro-Hungarian Emperor Franz Joseph I, and his army of 6,000 volunteers, which included numerous Slovenians, lose the Mexican civil war, after which the surviving volunteers returned home.
