LJUBLJANA
As its inhabitants and numerous visitors will tell you, Ljubljana is, indeed, a people-friendly city. Categorised as a medium-sized European city, it offers everything a metropolis does yet preserves its small-town friendliness. It is the political and cultural heart of the Slovene nation; an important European commercial, business, exhibition and congressional centre - Cankarjev dom as well as the transport, science and education centre of Slovenia.
Ljubljana is a city of culture. It is home to numerous theatres, museums and galleries, and boasts one of the oldest philharmonic orchestras in the world. For the people of Ljubljana culture is a way of living and thinking and is very much a part of everyday life. Over 10,000 cultural events take place in the city every year, among which there are 10 international festivals, allowing both the inhabitants of Ljubljana and its visitors to admire artists from different fields - from music, theatre and fine arts to the alternative and avantgarde. |

  

  

In Ljubljana you can choose between a number of hotels, pensions and other accomodation. There are hotels Lev*****, Slon****, Union****, Garni****, City Hotel Ljubljana***, M – Hotel***, Hotel and Hostel Park** and pensions Tavčar***, Lieber***, Mrak***, Janežič***, Zbilje*** and Pension Pri Špornu***. Young travellers can stay in Hotel Center Bit* which is also a member of International Youth Hostel Federation (IYHF), as well as in Hostel Celica, voted as one of the hippest hostels in the world. The closest thermal spa resort is Terme Snovik, located about 30 km from the capital. The largest Ljubljana Casino is Casino Ljubljana.
