Maribor prides itself with the Old Vine, the oldest vine in the world. The vine, which is more than 400 years old, grows on the front of a house close to the river Drava in Lent. It symbolises the rich wine culture of this merry part of Štajerska. In honour of the Old Vine a cycle of events " From Vine to Wine" take place throughout the year with the main event "In the Old Vine's embrace" which will take place from 22th to 25th September 2004.

The Old Vine or Stara trta, the oldest vine in the world, symbolizes the rich wine culture in Maribor and Stagers and at the same time stands for the start and the end of all wine roads that weave their way over the hills and vineyards around the city. In its honour the cycle of events entitled "From the Vine to Wine" conclude with the main event "In the embrace of the Old Vine".






This event is becoming bigger and bigger every year and is meant for expert's consultations and general public. In this year were besides exhibitions of fruits also flowers and shrubs and pot plants, apicultural products and wine tasting and wine presentations from Maribor's wine growing area, expert meetings and lectures, days of the ecological farmhouses and concerts.

Maribor is becoming a modern shopping place and one of the biggest tourist centres in the country. You can choose between several hotels: Hotel Habakuk, Hotel Piramida, Hotel Orel, Hotel Uni,...The Wellness & SPA-centre in Hotel Habakuk and the Medical-Recreational centre Fontana offer excellent opportunities for relaxing holidays.
